How to top up your Zing account

Before you can send, spend and convert worry-free from your Zing account, you’ll need to make sure your wallets are topped up.

different types of top-ups

There are a few different ways to add money to your account. We’ve made a list of all our top-up methods so you can choose what works best for you and your money.

Linked Accounts

What is a linked account? The easiest way to top up your Zing wallet is by linking your bank account. You can link your bank account to Zing so you don’t have to approve every top-up with your bank.

How do linked accounts work? It works by setting pre-approved single top-up and monthly top-up limits. Any future top-up can be made with just one tap in Zing.

Follow these steps to link your bank account:

  1. Open the Zing app and select ‘Linked accounts’ from the side menu.

  2. Tap the ‘Link account’ button.

  3. Choose your bank.

  4. Review the linked account limits.

  5. Follow the steps with your bank to complete the account linking.

You can link more than one bank or multiple accounts from the same bank and it’s available for many major UK banks – Barclays, Chase, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, Nationwide Bank, NatWest and Santander.

Linking your account also allows you to unlock something special – an even more effortless, worry-free way to top-up your account without having to lift a finger.

How long does a linked account top-up take? A big benefit of linked account top-ups is that the money usually arrives instantly, but in some cases it can take up to 2 hours.

Automatic top-ups

What is an automatic top-up? If you’ve linked your bank account, you can make manual top-ups a thing of the past with automatic top-ups. No more painful attempts to add money at the checkout, or in a new country with no signal. Just your money in your Zing account whenever you need it, automatically.

How do automatic top-ups work? You’ll need to make sure you have a linked bank account first. You can only have automatic top-ups set up for one of your linked accounts.

1. Go to the side menu and select ‘Linked accounts’.

2. Select the linked account you want to create an automatic top-up for and scroll down to ‘Automatic payments’.

3. Create your automatic top-up limits so we know how much money you want to add to your GBP wallet when your balance falls below a certain amount.

E.g. When my balance falls below £50, top up £100.

Then let us do the rest. You’re freed up to live your best international life without having to lift a finger. Money is always in your Zing wallet when you need it – whether you’re spending, sending or converting.

You’re in control Create top-up limits that work for you. Amend them at any time so the money you need is always there in your wallet. You can also cancel the mandate at any time.

Stay ready for anything Say goodbye to low balances. We’ll make sure your account is always topped up, so you’re always ready to live your best international life. We’re on top of your top-ups You link your account, choose your minimum balance and top-up amount and we’ll do the rest. You can relax knowing your wallet is ready for anything. If for any reason your automatic top-up doesn’t work, we’ll let you know by email and push notification.

How long does an automatic top-up take?  Just like with your linked bank account, the money usually arrives instantly, but in some cases it can take up to 2 hours. Automatic top-ups happen in the background, so even if you don’t have signal because you’re in a different country, your balance will still be topped up and ready to spend.

Quick bank transfer

What is a quick bank transfer? Even if you don’t link your bank account, you can still make quick bank transfers to top up your Zing wallet. As the name suggests, they are a fast way to transfer money from your bank account to your Zing wallet.

How does a quick bank transfer work?  If you open Zing and tap ‘Add money’, quick bank transfer is the first payment method you’ll see. Choose your amount and you’ll be directed straight to your chosen banking app to check the details and confirm the payment. You’ll be transferred back to Zing and your money will show in your wallet.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

What is an Apple Pay or Google Pay top-up? You may already use your device to pay for everyday things, but now you can use the cards in your digital wallet to add money to your Zing account too.

How does it work?  If you open Zing and tap ‘Add money’, you’ll see either Apple Pay or Google Pay as an option, depending on the type of device you have. Choose your amount and tap the button at the bottom of the screen. You’ll be directed to your digital wallet to select the card you want to pay with. If you don’t have Apple Pay or Google Pay set up, don’t worry. You’ll be prompted to set this up first before making your top-up.
